This includes streaming - whether it's watching movies offline through a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video or listening to our favorite playlists via an audio streaming provider, our gadgets are jam-packed with entertainment.
Viewing on the go and offline has come a long way - formerly, we were limited to having a stable WiFi connection or consistent data, but now we can stream offline simply by downloading TV series, movies, and even podcasts directly to our devices. So, whether you're on a train, bus, or airline, you can watch whatever you want, whenever you want, making the previous luxury a thing of the past.

The most important thing to know is that you'll need an account with the watching platforms as well as a WiFi or mobile data connection to complete the download. Here's how to download from Netflix so you can keep watching Netflix no matter where you are:
- Firstly, you will need a Netflix account and you will need to download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple store depending on your device.
- For movies, all you need to do is to go to the listing via search and tap the download icon.
- For a series, you will need to download individual episodes. The best way to do this is to click on the show listing, then click on the season you want to view from the dropdown, and tap the download icon on the episodes you want to watch.
- Downloading from the homepage is even easier – with access to My List where you’ve added the shows and movies you wish to watch and the handy Continue Watching list, all you need to do is tap on the desired show and the listing info will pop up at the bottom of your screen – simply tap download and all done.
Once you've downloaded your episode or movie, it will appear in downloads at the bottom right of your device's screen. Storage shouldn't be an issue either, because Netflix allows you to alter the download settings to 'standard video', which takes up less space on your device. Win-win.
Click Downloads to begin watching your downloaded TV episodes or movies (bottom right of the screen). Scroll to the title you want to watch and simply press Play if it's a movie, or open the show and press Play next to the episode if it's a show.
Amazon Prime VideoThere are account limits when streaming Amazon Prime Video offline. You cannot, for example, download for Amazon Household members; you must be a full-paying client to access the download services. Also, keep in mind that, while Prime has a tremendous number of entertainment on their viewing platform, not every listing is covered as part of your membership. However, the pay-per-view options can be viewed offline just as easily.
Here's how to use Amazon Prime Video to download movies and make the most of their app:
- Only a limited number of videos on their platform can be downloaded. The title of TV series and movies that may be downloaded will have a download symbol next to them. What's amazing about Prime is that you can download full seasons or individual episodes with a single click.
- Similar to Netflix, you can choose the download quality to save space on your smartphone.
- On iOS, go to Settings > Streaming and Downloading > Download Quality. Choose between good, better, and best based on the amount of space required for one hour of video. For Android, go to My Stuff, hit the Settings gear icon, Stream and Download, and then Download Quality.
Setting your phone to Data Saver mode is another wonderful feature to ensure you're not using your data, even if you're downloading the movie. Tap Streaming and Downloading in Settings, then select Download on WiFi Only.
YouTube PremiumIf you're a frequent YouTube viewer, YouTube Premium is an excellent way to keep up with your favorite vloggers, channels, and music. YouTube Premium is YouTube's ad-free version. Signing up for a YouTube Premium subscription grants you access to YouTube Originals and YouTube Music, as well as the ability to instantly download and watch videos offline.
How to download movies from YouTube Premium:
- Open the YouTube app.
- Search for the desired video, simply tap Download and the quality of the video. You’re likely to have 3 options of download quality – low, medium, or HD. Remember, the higher the quality of the video, the more space it'll take up on your device.

Disney+ includes family favorites, vintage Disney, and entertainment powerhouses such as Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. The restrictions on the number of devices that can be attached to one account are less restrictive than with other streaming apps, so you can watch Disney+ material on up to ten devices. In addition, unlike Amazon Prime Video, all Disney+ material is available for download.
How to download movies from the Disney+ app:
- Open the app.
- To download a movie, click the movie in the search function or on Home and simply tap Download.
- To download a full season of a TV show, you will need to open the show’s page via the search function or Home and select the season, before being prompted to download. For an individual episode, simply scroll down to view the episodes and tap the download button next to each installment.
- Once fully downloaded, go to Downloads (bottom of the screen). You can delete your saved films and shows in this folder after viewing them offline.
