Google has expanded the availability of its impressive AI chatbot, Bard, to more than 180 countries and has introduced several features to improve the user experience. This move comes at a time when OpenAI's ChatGPT is gaining attention in various industries due to its exceptional ability to provide highly detailed human-like responses to prompts in natural language.

In March, Google introduced Bard as a competitor to ChatGPT, which has garnered considerable attention from tech enthusiasts. As a result, comparisons between the two chatbots are unavoidable.

On May 10, at the developers’ conference, Google opened Bard to the world and introduced a slew of upgrades to ensure that it stays ahead of the curve.

Now that we have access to Bard and ChatGPT, here’s a look at how Google’s chatbot is getting better and about to overshadow OpenAI’s creation.

Bard and internet's influence.

By default, ChatGPT does not include internet access and may require a web-browsing feature to access online content. In contrast, Google Bard has internet access built-in, giving it an advantage over ChatGPT.

Bard has been trained on a vast dataset of text and code, which includes information from the internet. This allows Bard to provide thorough and informative responses to questions, including the ability to provide the latest news updates and retrieve information from the internet.

We tested Bard by asking it to display the top news of the day, and while it provided a list of noteworthy events, some of the news items were not entirely accurate. It's important to note that Bard is still in the experimental phase, and there may be some inaccuracies in its responses. Furthermore, the chatbot comes with a disclaimer stating that it may display inaccurate or offensive information that does not reflect Google's views. This disclaimer is located directly under the text input box.

Bard coming to smartphones.

One of the major drawbacks of ChatGPT is that it currently lacks a mobile version, which could limit its accessibility for users who prefer using their smartphones. While some users have been able to access ChatGPT via web browsers on their phones, a dedicated mobile application would offer greater convenience.

In contrast, although Google Bard is not available as a standalone mobile app, the company plans to integrate the chatbot into more of its apps and services, which would make it more accessible to smartphone users.

Response with images.

ChatGPT is proficient at generating detailed text responses but lacks the ability to provide image responses. This limitation could be attributed to OpenAI's focus on other properties such as Dall-E, which specializes in generating images. On the other hand, Google Bard is capable of providing image responses within its text responses.

Although Google demonstrated this capability during the I/O event, we were unable to generate image responses when we tested prompts such as "best places to visit in Kerala." It's possible that the feature is still being rolled out gradually.

Bard has many plugins.

Google has announced that Bard will include a variety of plugins, including Walmart, Spotify, Uber Eats, Adobe Firefly, and various other Google apps. It's worth noting that OpenAI also introduced similar plugins for ChatGPT in March of this year. The main difference is that the plugins on ChatGPT are only available to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, a premium service that costs $20 per month.

Prompt with images.

One of the most remarkable features of Bard is its ability to use images as prompts or even scan images using Google Lens. For example, a user who is unsure how to use their craft materials can simply take a photo and ask Bard for ideas. The chatbot will promptly suggest various craft ideas. This is a significant advancement in improving prompts on AI chatbots, as it allows for more intuitive and visual interactions.

Voice commands.

While ChatGPT does not currently support image or voice prompts, Google's Bard offers these features to its users. Voice prompts can be a convenient way to receive responses while multitasking, and this may be the first time that voice is being used as a prompt on an AI chatbot, making Bard stand out from its competitors.

Export outcomes to Gmail and Docs.

Google Bard's share feature will be a useful way for users to share results with friends and coworkers. Beneath every response, users will see like, dislike, and share buttons. The share button will offer options to export to Google Docs and Gmail drafts. With these export functions, emailing responses will be seamless. While ChatGPT also offers extensions for similar features, Bard has built-in export functionality by default.

Improve search.

Google Bard provides users with greater control over validating the information they receive. In addition to the like, dislike, and share buttons, users can also click on the Google icon beneath every response to perform a Google Search related to their prompt.

This opens a box with relevant search terms, and clicking on any of the topics leads to another page showing search results in the usual way. At present, ChatGPT does not offer a similar mechanism for obtaining live search results.

Gmail's strength.

The integration of Google Bard with Gmail could be one of its most significant advantages. With over 2 billion users, Gmail is one of the most popular email services, and having an AI chatbot integrated within it could revolutionize the way people interact through email.

This feature could be particularly useful for professional interactions, as users can easily use Google Bard to draft emails, such as writing proposals or sending invitations, without leaving the Gmail interface.

Bard designed for coding.

That is correct. While ChatGPT can generate text and code, its primary focus is on generating natural language responses. On the other hand, Google Bard's focus on programming languages and its ability to assist with code generation, explanation, and debugging makes it a more suitable option for professionals in the field of software development.

However, it's important to note that OpenAI has also introduced Codex, a powerful AI system that can generate code and assist with programming tasks.
