WhatsApp Introduces 'Status Archive' Feature for Businesses

WhatsApp plans to introduce a feature for Android devices that allows businesses to archive their status updates

According to reports, WhatsApp, an instant messaging application owned by Meta, is set to launch a feature known as "Status Archive." This feature will serve as a business tool, enabling businesses to share their past status updates with customers.

It is currently in the testing phase with beta users of WhatsApp Business for Android and will be gradually rolled out to a broader audience in the coming weeks.

WABetaInfo reported that following the enhancements to the Calls tab in the recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.10.4 update, WhatsApp is now shifting its focus to improving the Status tab. As part of these improvements, certain businesses may have access to a new feature called "Status Archive," which becomes available after updating to the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store.

According to the report, users will receive a notification banner within the Status tab if this feature is enabled for their WhatsApp accounts. Once activated, the Status Archive feature will automatically store users' status updates on their devices after 24 hours.

Furthermore, users will have the ability to customize their archive preferences and access their archive directly from the menu within the Status tab. Importantly, the archive is designed to be private, meaning only the respective business can view their archived status updates.

The report highlights the potential benefits of this feature for businesses, as it enables them to republish statuses from their archive. This functionality allows businesses to share crucial updates with their customers, ultimately enhancing their overall business operations.

The status updates stored in the archive will remain on the device for a duration of 30 days. This timeframe allows businesses to utilize the archived statuses for advertising purposes on platforms like Facebook and Instagram until they reach the expiration date.

It is important to note that this feature appears to be specifically tailored for businesses. The rollout of the status archive feature is currently being carried out gradually, targeting selected beta testers who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp Business beta from the Google Play Store. Additionally, it will be made accessible to a larger user base in the coming weeks.
